PLEASANT RIDGE DEMOGRAPHICS
As of the census of 2010, there were 2,526 people, 1,115 households, and 674 families residing in the city. The population density was 4,431.6 inhabitants per square mile (1,711.1/km2). There were 1,153 housing units at an average density of 2,022.8 per square mile (781.0/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 94.7% White, 1.9% African American, 0.1% Native American, 1.1% Asian, 0.3% from other races, and 1.9% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.7% of the population.
There were 1,115 households of which 26.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.7% were married couples living together, 5.7% had a female householder with no husband present, 2.0% had a male householder with no wife present, and 39.6% were non-families. 28.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 9.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.27 and the average family size was 2.87.
The median age in the city was 43.4 years. 20.3% of residents were under the age of 18; 3.5% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 29.4% were from 25 to 44; 32.6% were from 45 to 64; and 14.4% were 65 years of age or older. The gender makeup of the city was 50.8% male and 49.2% female.
Pleasant Ridge has a high percentage of same-sex couples. According to the 2010 Census, it has the seventh-highest rate of same-sex couples in the nation with 59.6 per 1,000. It is adjacent to Ferndale, a suburb considered the heart of the LGBT community in the area.
