April showers have brought May flowers, and we’re ready to get outside and enjoy the sights of spring! This month’s events guide is all about welcoming the start of the season with floral fests and outdoor activities galore.
Here’s what’s happening around Michigan:
Tulip Time Festival
When: Friday, May 1 through May 10
Where: Various Locations, Holland
Celebrating its 96th year, Tulip Time transforms Holland, Michigan into a breathtaking springtime destination. Over the course of 10 days, the city comes alive with the vibrant colors of more than 5 million tulips blooming across parks, gardens, and city streets.

Detroit’s Cinco de Mayo Parade & Fiesta
When: Sunday, May 3 | 12:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Where: Starting on West Vernor Highway, Southwest Detroit
Celebrate Cinco de Mayo at the Detroit Cinco de Mayo Parade & Fiesta. The annual event pays tribute to the parade’s founders, the current Mexican Patriotic Committee, and the future Southwest Detroit leaders who will carry forward this cultural identity for generations to come.

Mother’s Day Riverboat Cruise
When: Sunday, May 10 | 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. | 6:00 to 9:30 p.m.
Where: Detroit Princess Riverboat, Detroit
Enjoy stunning waterfront views with mom on the Mother’s Day Detroit River Lunch or Dinner Cruise! The menu features a delicious full buffet, serving beef tips with gravy, baked chicken, cheese tortellini, fresh salads, and more.

Balloons Over Bavarian Inn
When: Friday, May 22 through 25 | Various Times
Where: River Place Shops, Frankenmuth
Witness over 20 hot air balloons take flight over Frankenmuth. This 4-day event includes morning and evening balloon flights, as well as a nightly balloon glow. Feeling adventurous? Head to the Bavarian Inn Lodge around 6:00 p.m. to experience a balloon ride yourself!

Kensington Art Fair
When: Saturday, May 23 through 25
Saturday & Sunday, 10:00 a.m. to 6 p.m. | Monday, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Where: Maple Beach, Milford
Enjoy viewing and shopping the works of over 100 artists at the 10th Annual Kensington Art Fair, including everything from jewelry to ceramics to original paintings. The event will also feature tons of food trucks, as well as hands-on art activities and live music.

Birmingham Village Fair
When: Thursday, May 28 through 31
Thursday, 2:00 to 9:00 p.m. | Friday through Sunday, 12:00 to 9:00 p.m.
Where: Shain Park, Birmingham
The 61st Annual Village Fair returns to Shain Park, and its surrounding streets, for four days of community fun, local flavor, and festive energy in the heart of Downtown Birmingham.
